My short trip to France was an experience I don’t regret. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the stunning architecture. France has a way of blending old-world charm with modern sophistication, especially in Paris, where the wide boulevards, grand bridges, and historic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower left me in awe. France is also known for their fashion, and it didn’t take long for me to see why. The streets of Paris are filled with designer boutiques that are easily accessible, making it clear that fashion is woven into the fabric of everyday life here.
The food in France was everything I expected and more. From pastries to Savory dishes, French cuisine is a feast for the senses. The attention to detail in presentation is incredible, and even something as simple as a macaroon becomes a visual masterpiece. Meals are an art form in themselves, and every bite is an indulgence, from buttery croissants to rich desserts like crème brûlée.
That said, my first impression of France wasn’t entirely what I had imagined. After arriving from London by train, I was met with an unexpected reality, graffiti, the scent of urine, and visible signs of homelessness. It was a reminder that even the most beautiful cities have their imperfections.
No trip to France is complete without visiting the Eiffel Tower. It’s one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, and my tour guide, a passionate individual who had moved from Georgia to study the tower’s architecture, made the experience even more meaningful. The climb to the top was a challenge—1,665 steps—but the view was well worth the effort. While many opt for the elevator, I chose the stairs to truly experience the ascent. The panoramic views from the top were nothing short of breathtaking.
One aspect of France that isn’t often mentioned is its safety. While Paris is generally safe, our guide advised us to stay within the capital’s main tourist areas and to avoid venturing into unfamiliar neighbourhood’s without a local or guide. Like any large city, there are areas that require caution, and it’s always good to stay alert.
Overall, France was a country that exceeded my expectations in many ways while also reminding me that no place is perfect. The combination of breathtaking architecture, world-class fashion, delicious food, and the unforgettable Eiffel Tower made my trip memorable. Even the less glamorous moments made the experience feel more real and gave me a deeper appreciation for the country’s complexities.
